Commonly know as the Turk's cap lily, this vigorous, tall-growing North American species lily produces impressive racemes of numerous nodding, strongly recurved Turk's-cap flowers. The blooms are orange flushed with red, becoming green towards the base and heavily spotted with maroon. Mature plants can carry up to 40 flowers on purple-mottled green stems, creating a spectacular late-summer display.

Planting Instructions: This is a stem-rooting lily, so it should be planted more deeply than basal-rooting lilies, approximately 2½ times the height of the bulb, with bulbs generally spaced around 15 cm apart. Enrich the soil with leaf mould or well-rotted organic matter before planting.
Soil and Drainage Requirements: Chalk, Loam, Sandy soil; well drained; Acid, Neutral, Alkaline
Preferred Location: Full sun or Partial shade; East, South or West facing; Sheltered
Care: Keep adequately watered during growth without allowing the bulbs to become waterlogged. Very tall stems may require staking. After flowering, allow the stems and foliage to die back naturally before removing them. Established plants can be propagated by separating offsets after the foliage dies down. Watch for lily beetle, aphids, slugs and snails.
