A handsome, long-lived Martagon lily producing numerous nodding, strongly recurved Turk's-cap flowers on tall upright stems. The flowers are rich buttercup to golden yellow, attractively spotted brown to crimson, with pink-flushed buds. Once established it makes an impressive naturalistic display and is particularly effective in woodland-style and lightly shaded planting.

Planting and Care Information

Planting Instructions: Plant in autumn in humus-rich, well-drained soil, ideally where the bulbs can remain permanently. Martagon lilies can take a year to establish after transplanting, so avoid moving them unnecessarily. Once settled they are exceptionally long-lived and can naturalise effectively.

Soil and Drainage Requirements: Chalk, Loam, Sandy soil; moist but well drained; Acid, Neutral, Alkaline

Preferred Location: Full sun or Partial shade; Sheltered

Care: Maintain moisture during active growth but avoid waterlogging. Allow stems and foliage to die back naturally after flowering. Once established, leave bulbs undisturbed; mature stems can produce 20–30 flowers and plants may persist for decades in a suitable position.
