Planting and Care Information
Planting and Care Information
Planting Instructions: Plant in well-drained soil enriched with leaf mould or well-rotted organic matter. Autumn planting allows bulbs to establish before spring growth, although spring planting is preferable where winter soil is particularly heavy and wet. Martagon lilies establish best when left undisturbed, so choose the permanent position carefully.
Soil and Drainage Requirements: Chalk, Loam, Sandy soil; moist but well drained; Neutral to Alkaline
Preferred Location: Full sun or Partial shade; East, South or West facing; Sheltered
Care: Remove seedheads unless seed is required, but retain the stems and foliage until they die back naturally. Established bulbs are best left undisturbed. Offsets can be separated once foliage has died down. Monitor for lily beetle, aphids and slugs; container-grown plants can also be vulnerable to vine weevil.
