Planting and Care Information

Planting Instructions: Plant bulbs approximately 15–20 cm deep, ideally in autumn or spring, in fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Space around 20–30 cm apart. Oriental lilies prefer their roots cool, so surrounding planting or a mulch is beneficial. Avoid strongly alkaline soils; container growing in an ericaceous or suitable acidic compost is an option where garden soil is unsuitable.

Soil and Drainage Requirements: Clay, Loam, Sandy Soil; Moist but well drained; Acid to Neutral

Preferred Location: Full sun or Partial shade; East, South or West facing; Sheltered

Care: Keep adequately watered during active growth, particularly when grown in containers, but avoid waterlogging. Feed regularly during growth and flowering. Deadhead faded blooms but leave the stems and foliage to die back naturally, allowing energy to return to the bulb. Taller stems may require support in exposed positions. Monitor for lily beetle and its larvae.
